What is actually the 3G service?..

...... i never actually get to know more about the 3G in Malaysia or even would wonder was it a new brand of communication stuff... Kind of... In fact, who cares? Haaa... I just could hear some about it when 3G cellphones launched in the market. Anyway, recently i have been involved for an assignment which its topic is 'ngamngam' about 3G ...... At least this is exactly the chance for me to learn about new thing (to me la...). In fact, our respectable Pn. Noormaizatul would like us to present our assignment by blogging it. Wow... Never heard about such way of presentation. I also think that it might be a great idea, at least it sounds interesting ya~ Even though i had never had my own BLOG in my life before. Haha. Who cares??

...let me have a short introduction for u guys...
"3G is short for third generation mobile telephone standards and technology. It enables network operator to offer users a wide range of more advanced services and while achieving greater network capacity that leads to efficiency of data transferring.

In 1978, Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) introduced the world of the first generation technology, 1G. AMPS was one of the first modern cellular phone systems, which remain in operation until 2008. It provided users with analogue voice service but no data service. Analogue networks in Europe faced escalating problems such as poor quality of service and low levels of security which led to the GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications), 2G network being launched in 1992. GSM users were offered Digital voice service, which was far better than its analogue ancestor, and enjoyed enhanced calling features like caller ID. Data was able to be transferred, but at a glacial rate of 14.4 Kbps (kilobits per second).

By the way, developers didn't stop there - they took an evolutionary half-step to 2.5G resulting in i-mode data services, camera phones, high-speed circuit-switched data (HSCSD) and GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) with transmission speeds of up to 40Kbps. A further evolution brought us EDGE (Enhanced Data rates for GSM Evolution). The technology is often referred to as 2.75G and managed to boost transmission speeds to 200Kbps. This brings us finally to 3G which was firstly introduced by Japan. 3G users were provided superior voice quality, enhanced roaming capabilities and broadband data transmission rates at least of 2Mbps (megabits per seconds).

3G cellular phone has the features such as the ability for people to conduct video conferencing, include map and positioning services, as well as multiplayer gaming, teleconferencing, snap photos, video ringtones, easy access to interactive applications, MMS (content such as news weather, e-mail, shopping, classified advertisement and games), usability on all popular modes (cellular telephone, and paging fax, video conferencing and web browsing) broad bandwidth and high speed (upwards of 2Mbps), roaming capability throughout Europe, Japan and North America. In addition, 3G cellular phone can play media files encoded in MP3, AAC or Mpeg4 formats. A graphic-rich Web page downloaded in 21 seconds on 3G iPhone, compared with 59 seconds on EDGE."
